Safety Checklist

In attention is the single largest factor shared by those who have suffered personal assaults and attacks. Many victims are chose simply because they were not paying attention - they were easy targets.

You can significantly decrease the odds of ever becoming a victim by taking remembering this important checklist:

Before going out:

  • Does anyone know where you're going?
  • Have you been there before, or is this a first visit?
  • Have you met this customer or client before?
  • Have they been into the office?
  • Is it possible to take along a buddy for the first visit?
  • Have you confirmed the identity of the person you are meeting?
  • Do you have your cell phone?

When you arrive at your destination:

  • Does everything seem normal or is there questionable activity?
  • Are you parked in a well-lit, visible location?
  • Is your car blocked if you need to make a quick exit?

After you step out of your car:

  • Are there suspicious people around you?
  • Are people acting normally?
  • Do you know exactly where you're going?
  • Is your destination strange or obscure?
  • Are you familiar with the territory?

While walking toward your destination:

  • Are people coming and going or is the area unusually quiet?
  • Do you observe any hazards? Is anyone loitering in the area?

At the door:

  • Does everything look normal inside?
  • Are you comfortable walking in?
  • Is someone following you in?

As you enter:

  • Does everything seem normal or is something out of place?
  • Is there anyone present who should not be?

Inside - Be Aware & Alert:

  • Immediately identify exits, including doors and windows.
  • Identify objects you can use in defense or to break a window to draw attention.
  • Don't worry about being polite. Follow intuition and take whatever measure is needed to secure your own safety.
  • If something feels wrong --it is!
  • When threatened, your best bet is to RUN if you can.
