Attention REALTORS®: A Call for Action is Needed

May 30, 2019

Respond now, it’s fast and simple!

The state legislature is considering legislation (S2892-A-Salazar/A5030-A-Hunter) that would establish a good cause eviction standard throughout New York State.

This restrictive legislation would impose rent control on most residential rental buildings throughout the state and make real estate investment less attractive.

It's time to stand up and let your lawmaker know that good cause eviction and statewide rent control are not what New York needs!

This new bill would restrict the ability of a landlord to evict a tenant unless the grounds for eviction meet the criteria outlined in the legislation, as the bill essentially allows for a perpetual lease. The proposal would also effectively cap annual rent increases at 1.5 times the regional Consumer Price Index in all rental properties except for owner-occupied properties with less than four units. This proposal would discourage real estate investment at a time when New York State should be creating more incentives to attract people, businesses and investment.

Take action now to urge your lawmaker to oppose this legislation!
