URGENT - Call for Action!

Mar 29, 2019

The New York State Legislature and Governor Cuomo are trying to shake us down AGAIN! They are considering an increase in a statewide real estate transfer tax.  We must fight back now!

REALTORS® MUST ACT NOW!

We need you to tell your state lawmakers and Governor Cuomo that you OPPOSE increasing the real estate transfer tax in this year's State Budget. Say NO to any proposed statewide real estate transfer tax!

Here’s what could happen - this new tax proposal would be in addition to several existing state and local real estate transaction taxes, including:

  • Existing state real estate transfer tax rate of $4 per $1,000 (0.4 percent) of the consideration,
  • Existing state real estate transfer tax rate of 1 percent on any property valued over $1 million;
  • Existing New York City real estate transfer tax rates ranging from an additional 1 percent to 2.625 percent depending on the value and type of property;
  • And up-to four separate mortgage recording tax rates (state and local) ranging up to 2.8 percent imposed on the mortgage debt.
  • The real estate transfer tax increase under consideration would be imposed on both residential and commercial real estate conveyances.

New Yorkers already face some of the highest-in-the-nation taxes when trying to buy a home and this proposal will only exacerbate the problem.
