Long Island Board of REALTORS® Partner with Rebuilding Together LI to Restore Homes and Help those in Need

June 15, 2012 - West Babylon, NY - The Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. (LIBOR) was honored to continue their over seven year partnership with Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI), by having members donate their time and skills on Thursday, June 14th.  The group of REALTOR® volunteers worked alongside the RTLI team to construct a wheelchair ramp at the home of a Massapequa couple, who are 92 and 83 years old respectively.   The installation of the ramp will allow the homeowners to receive the medical attention that they may need; enabling them to come and go from her home with ease.

Spirits were high for all who volunteered, knowing that their hard work was truly making a difference in not one, but two lives. “The members of the Long Island Board of REALTORS® are ‘More than REALTORS®.’ said Donald Scanlon, President of LIBOR. “Many of us also have the experience of family who are elderly, disabled, or being a single parent family, and we too, understand and experience the needs of those that are struggling to live on Long Island.  As a group, we are at times, fortunate to be able to support those that need help, and we are honored to be able to assist whenever we can. ,” added Scanlon.   Also on hand was Nassau County Presiding Officer Peter J. Schmitt (R-Massapequa, District 12), who visited the site of the Rebuilding Project to show his support for both organizations in their mission to help those in need in the community.

In addition to contributing time, earlier this year LIBOR made a $2,500 donation to the organization.  Rebuilding Together Long Island is dedicated to restoring the homes of economically disadvantaged homeowners who are elderly, disabled, and/or single-parent families, so they may continue to live in comfort with dignity and independence.  Their committed staff of 300 volunteers is the backbone of the organization.  According to Sol Goldstein, “The generous contribution by LIBOR enables us to continue our efforts and help people in need.  We provide a wide range of services which include plumbing and electrical repairs, yard work, tree trimming, gutter cleaning, carpentry, roof repair, trash removal, non cosmetic painting, lock work, smoke detector installation and the construction of wheel chair ramps.  We are especially proud of our proficiency in building these ramps, which enable those people that are home-bound to enjoy their renewed freedom.  All of the services of Rebuilding Long Island Together are provided at no cost to the homeowner thanks to generous contributions such as the one we have received from the Long Island Board of REALTORS®.”

This donation was made through the Long Island Board of REALTORS® “We’re More Than REALTORS®…” initiative, spearheaded by the LIBOR Public Relations committee, which supports numerous programs and charitable community organizations. The “We’re More Than Realtors® campaign was created by the LIBOR Public Relations Committee.
